Citizen BM8242-08A is an elegant watch with leather strap, powered by any source of light, which charges a battery. You will probably never need to replace the battery if you maintain the watch accordingly. Environmental friendly indeed.

A fully charged battery will keep the watch ticking for six months, even if it's left in a drawer all the time. The fastest way to charge the battery is by exposing the watch to direct sunlight.

Adjusting the time, date and day is quite simple. The adjusting screw can be in three positions. The outer position adjusts the time, the middle position adjusts the date (counter clockwise) and day (clockwise). You can choose between english and french when it comes to displaying the day. Finding the middle position can be a bit tricky, especially if you have large fingers.

Timekeeping starts when you press the screw to the inner position.

The watch will cope with a splash of water, but you can't swim or a take shower with it.
The instruction manual is easy to understand.

Fed up with battery-powered watches failing without warning at crucial moments , I decided to treat myself to an eco-drive solar powered watch. This one is small enough to suit a woman's wrist but large enough to read easily, and its understated style is suitable for everyday wear as well as for an evening out. I was even able to haggle a bit on the price and got £7 off. Ordered on Monday, free overnight delivery and emails to keep me updated on the despatch progress. It powered itself up overnight in a dingy kitchen and has worked brilliantly and accurately. I love it dearly already.

The elegance and stile are all here, it's not like Japan watches so commercial, but sofisticated like fine Swiss watches.
